What you need

  • Windows 11, or Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime — already on Windows 11 and most Windows 10 PCs
  • Enough free memory for your server (4 GB is the starting point)
  • An internet connection for downloads and Playit
  • Your friends need Minecraft: Java Edition

Trust and safety

  • Not code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen may say “Windows protected your PC” or show an unknown publisher.
  • Only download from mzforge.com, and check the file's SHA-256 below if you like.
  • Installs for your Windows account only. Uninstalling leaves your worlds untouched.

Microsoft Store

A Microsoft Store version is being prepared. Store apps are signed by Microsoft, so there's no unknown-publisher warning. A Store button will appear here only after Microsoft approves the listing.

Questions

Is MZForge free?

Yes, completely. You don’t need an MZForge account.

Which Minecraft edition does it work with?

Minecraft Java Edition. Bedrock (consoles, phones) isn't supported.

Do my friends need to set up anything?

No. They just need Minecraft Java Edition and the address you send them.

Do I need to set up port forwarding?

Not on Paper or Purpur — MZForge connects Playit for you the first time you start. On Fabric and Vanilla you set up the public address yourself.

Which server software can I use?

Paper (recommended), Purpur, Fabric and Vanilla. Forge and NeoForge are not available yet.

Does my server stay online when my PC is off?

No. The server runs on your PC, so it's online while your PC and MZForge are running. With Multi-Host a friend's PC can take a turn hosting.

Why does Windows warn me when I install it?

This beta isn't code-signed yet, so Windows doesn't know the publisher. Download only from mzforge.com and compare the SHA-256 shown above. The Microsoft Store version will be signed by Microsoft.

Will MZForge ever delete my server?

Never permanently. Deleting a server sends it to the Windows Recycle Bin. MZForge reminds you to open servers you haven't used for 30 days, and unused servers may be moved to the Recycle Bin so you can still get them back. Multi-Host servers are never cleaned up.
